But we have seen from table III that many of these older pupils are in the lower grades; and as their tendency is to drop out at thirteen or fourteen, many of them leave before they finish the elementary school. Since it is evident that many of the pupils are repeating their work, it is well to inquire in which grades it is occurring. Dr. Ayres assumes that most of the repetition occurs in the grades up to the fifth, and that there is none in the sixth, seventh, or eighth.
